The Forever Coffee
Mrs. Thompson had always been a woman who was fiercely independent and knew what she wanted. She had lived a long and fulfilling life, and as she grew older, she began to think about what she wanted for her final days. She had discussed it with her daughter and son-in-law, and together they had decided that a living will was the best way to ensure that her wishes were respected.
Five years later, Mrs. Thompson was living in a nursing home. Her mind had begun to slip, and she had been diagnosed with dementia. Despite this, she still clung to the idea of dying on her own terms.
One day, the doctor who was treating her came to visit with her daughter and son-in-law. They sat around a small table, sipping coffee and chatting. Mrs. Thompson seemed to be enjoying herself, smiling and nodding along to the conversation. But then, the doctor did something unexpected.
He slipped a sedative into her coffee, hoping to make her drowsy enough to administer the lethal dose. However, the sedative didn't work as planned, and Mrs. Thompson remained alert. The doctor then gave her an additional sedative shot, and soon, she was fast asleep.
The doctor left the room briefly and returned carrying an IV bag filled with a euthanasia fluid. Mrs. Thompson woke up and said, "Don't put that into me." She knew what was about to happen, and she was scared.
The doctor ignored her, telling the daughter and son-in-law to hold her down. They were confused but did as they were told, and the doctor inserted the IV, administering the lethal dose. Mrs. Thompson passed away peacefullys
However, the doctor's actions did not go unnoticed. He had breached the laws surrounding euthanasia, and he was arrested. Mrs. Thompson's daughter and son-in-law were devastated, and they couldn't believe that someone could ignore their mother's wishes in such a callous manner.
In the end, justice was served, but it came at a terrible cost. Mrs. Thompson's final moments were marred by a doctor who had taken it upon himself to play God. Her family was left to pick up the pieces, mourning their loss and grappling with the knowledge that their mother had not been allowed to die on her own terms.
It is said that you cannot pick your family, but you can pick your doctor and your coffee, so choose wisely.
