The McDonald’s Murder
It was just another routine day for John, a 52-year-old man who enjoyed a cup of coffee from McDonald's every morning. As he walked out of the fast-food joint, coffee in hand, he accidentally bumped into a teenage boy who was hurrying inside. The coffee spilled all over the boy's shirt and pants, and before John could even apologize, the boy flew into a rage.
The boy, who was only 15, started hurling insults at John and then began physically assaulting him. John tried to defend himself, but the boy was too strong and too angry. He pushed John to the ground and kicked him repeatedly. The boy reached into his pocket and pulled out a knife. He stabbed John in the heart, killing him.
The incident caused concern and alarm among residents of the community, especially given the severity of the assault and the fact that it occurred in public. Members of the community were fearful that a violent individual was on the loose. Others were outraged that an innocent person was attacked in such a senseless manner.
Meanwhile, a narcotics detective named Tom was working on a separate case when one of his informants approached him with information about the boy. The informant had heard rumors that the boy was involved in a drug ring and had been seen hanging out with some dangerous characters.
Tom followed up on the lead and was able to track down the boy. He arrested him and brought him in for questioning. The boy denied any involvement in the drug ring or the murder. Tom continued for hours interrogating the boy until the confessed to the murder of John.
The case went to trial, and the boy was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison. But because of his age the boy would be eligible for parole after 10 years.
